Note to parents
In his essay, The Age of Nonpolarity, * president of the Council on Foreign Relations Richard Haass wrote, "America no longer has the luxury of a 'with-us-or-against-us' foreign policy." He argued that multilateralism is key to future U.S. success in all social and business arenas, including energy consumption, international security and safety, poverty and disease, the global economy and as well as for promoting world stability. Now more than ever the call to educate a
new generation of well-rounded, multilingual speakers, readers, writers and thinkers is important to everyone’s future.
I do want to clarify something for those who are not aware. I made a presentation to the Freshmen at orietation and to the Board of Education about the requirements for language classes. Students must take and pass at least 2 years of the same world language. They are not allowed to switch back and forth because they will never become fluent. Students must also practice their vocabulary daily at home.
We are using a new technique in the beginning language class called TPRS Storytelling. This project-based course is a continuation of the freshman level course. The brain-researched method gets tudents talking quickly while incorporating the culture, reading and writing. As the emphasis is on speaking first, you will not see students with a textbook, although they will be used in class. The second semester adds in reading and writing.
Finally, You are welcolme to sit in whenever you wish! Be warned though, you will be required to speak only French!!!
